Pet sitting or pet hotel: which is better for your pet?

Home pet sitting and pet hotels both have their place. Here's how to choose the right option for your dog or cat.

When you need to be away, there are two main options: a pet hotel, or a pet sitter who looks after your pet at home or in their own home. Both can work well. The right choice depends on your pet's personality.

Why many pets are calmer with a sitter

  • Familiar surroundings. Your pet keeps their own bed, smells and sounds. Cats in particular often prefer to stay home.
  • No cages. Pets stay free to roam the home, nap where they like and follow their normal day.
  • One-on-one attention. Your sitter focuses on your pet and their routine: feeding times, medication, walks and play.
  • Updates you can see. Regular photos and videos instead of guessing how they're doing.

When boarding with a sitter can be great

Some dogs love company. Social, energetic dogs often come back happier after spending time with a sitter's own friendly pets: more play, more sniffing, more tired and content naps. Our premium boarding places your dog in a vetted sitter's home rather than a kennel.

Questions to ask yourself

  • Does my pet get stressed by car rides or new places? Choose home sitting.
  • Does my dog love other dogs and get bored alone? Boarding with a sitter may suit them.
  • Does my pet need medication or a strict routine? One-on-one care keeps it on schedule.
  • Is my pet a senior or a very young puppy? A quiet home with one carer is usually best.
