Almost every fur parent we meet says the same thing: "I was nervous the first time." That's normal. Leaving your dog or cat with someone new is a big deal. The good news: a little preparation makes the first booking smooth for everyone, especially your pet.
1. Book a meet & greet
We always recommend a free meet & greet with your assigned sitter before the booking starts. Your pet gets to sniff out their new friend while you're still around, and you can walk the sitter through the house. Shy or skittish pets in particular settle much faster when they've met their sitter with you in the room.
2. Write down the routine
Pets are creatures of habit. A short note on the fridge helps your sitter keep their day exactly as usual:
- Feeding times and portions (and treats that are allowed)
- Medication: what, how much and when
- Walk times, favourite routes and leash rules
- Quirks: hiding spots, fears (fireworks, doorbells), favourite toys
3. Stock up on supplies for the whole stay
Food, medication, litter, poop bags and cleaning supplies, enough for every day of the booking plus a little extra in case your trip runs late.
4. Share vet details and an emergency contact
Leave your vet's name and number, and someone nearby we can call if we can't reach you. Make sure vaccinations are up to date before the stay.
5. Sort out access
Keys, door codes, building or condo guest passes: arrange them before day one so your sitter can arrive on time.
6. Stay reachable
Keep your phone on for messages, especially on the first day. Questions are usually small ("Is she allowed on the sofa?") but quick answers help.
7. Enjoy the updates
Our sitters send photos and videos throughout the booking, so you can see your fur baby eating, playing and napping. Most first-timers tell us the updates are what turned nerves into trust.
